“BLACK CAT, SCAREDY CAT.
WHERE WILL YOU GO?
As you prowl beneath
The moon’s spooky glow?
“Don’t let Halloween Kitty spook you! A black cat is anything but bad luck in this rhyming die-cut book by Charles Reasoner.” [back cover/publisher]
Review
Scaredy Cat is a cute board book in the shape of a cat. The pages are sturdy, glossy, and easy to wipe away globs of jelly. Scaredy Cat has bright yellow eyes as big as the moon. It is Halloween night and Scaredy Cat is on the prowl. A tiny mouse follows the cat and when Scaredy Cat looks behind him, the mouse bears a huge smile. Across the Halloween night, Scaredy Cat runs until he makes it home and snuggles in his bed . . . with the mouse.
The text has a singsong quality and it repeats the same first line.
This first line repetition will have kids quickly reading along. The illustrations are wonderful. Scaredy Cat always looks just a tad spooked, but always cute and cuddly. A smiling mouse sees the cat and follows, narrating along the way. Are the two friends or is the mouse simply curious as to where the cat is going? That will be up to the kids to decide.
When the night gets it darkest and scariest, (I love) the mouse uses its tail to carry a lantern. And of course, the most adorable spread is the last one, where the two friends—old or new—are safely snuggled together in bed, just as little ones will be if read Scaredy Cat at bedtime. You do not need to like cats to enjoy Scaredy Cat. Cute is cute, even when it meows.

Cat books are so fun! We are reading Inspector Dewey by Kristen Heimerl. He’s such a clever cat, and he really brings what cats are to life! It’s our fav read right now at bed time!! Halloween is a great time for books like Scaredy Cat, I am out to get it tomorrow!!

I don’t know Fuddles, but the safe bet is NO!

Looks like fun, and not too scary for the tiny tots. I found that my kids didn’t really get into the spirit of Halloween until maybe 4 or 5 when they could anticipate the candy.

Aw, the candy. Nothing spookier than a huge pile of candy. 😆

We called my daughter the Very Grouchy Ladybug when she was two. She had such a scowl on her face and did NOT want to go. LOL

Bet she loves Halloween now. 😆

Yes, if only she will not mislay her costume before the big day! She must wear it every day…

As long as you don’t need to “like cats” to enjoy this one, I might let Mom pick up a copy….
Love and licks and cats… Ugh.

No, you don’t need to like cats. Have you ever thought maybe cats don’t like dogs? Sure, it’s hard to believe anyone would not like dogs, but you never know. 😆
