“We’ve all been there. Or more accurately, we’ve all been with kids in the backseat clamoring (over and over!) Are we there yet?” [back cover]
Review
It’s time for a trip to grandma’s. A pleasant drive over the river and through the woods, and a few other imaginative, generously detailed landscapes. But, the question remains:
“Are we there yet?”
“No”
Are We There Yet is simplistic yet grandly detailed with various travel landscapes all with one simple question and answer on each spread. The outer realms are no different. When an alien ship flies an alien-child asks the now universally age-old question:
“Are we there yet?”
“No”
For a quick bedtime read, or an amusing afternoon, Are We There Yet is humorous. Very humorous. The repetition will get kids into the story quickly and actively. A great way for younger kids to join in the fun and the story. The illustrations are brightly colored landscapes of nearly every possibility, which should please all kids. Starting from the quiet neighborhood to a busy highway, the country, and even underwater and outer space.
“Are we there yet?”
“No”
Parents may wonder if the question should instead ask, “Where are we?” No matter the question, Are We There Yet gives much to delight young readers. There is a helicopter (replica of the toy on spread one), an earthworm guided paper airplane, a T-Rex lurking in the desert, and a wormhole leading to the final destination. It is obvious McCauley had a wonderful time imagining these scenarios.
“Are we there yet?”
“No”
Nina Laden (Peek-a Boo, Peek-a Zoo, Daddy Wrong Legs) and Adam McCauley have created a fun, visually appealing, hilarious ode to the oft asked question, Are we there yet? This is simply a fun, joyous book celebrating a rite of passage (well, of sorts). On this road trip, Are We There Yet? is one question adults will find amusing.
“Are we there yet?”
“YES”

I get this question every single time I’m in the car with my son. Can definitely relate. Sounds like a fun read for kids and adults.

I understand. It makes no difference if it’s a short 20 miles or a long 200, “Are we there yet” will surely be asked–several times. I wonder who started this expression and riled their parents for the first time.

So fun. I love a car book because I love a car ride! I always hope we never get there….
Love and licks,

Yeah, car rides can be fun. Anything on the road scare you? Or do you have the “Big Dog Complex” like my Jonathan? 🙂

Ha! Pretty much EVERYTHING scares me, but in the car, I stay vigilant, but I’m pretty confident.

Well, maybe for the first 50 miles. Then the backseat chorus of, “Are we there yet” might catch on too well. I kept smiling while reading Are We There Yet? It was impossible not too.
