Review
It’s bedtime and one young boy is ready for his nightly adventure. A signal—high in the sky, the Bat signal! As he looks upon his city—with evil staring back—the young boy climbs up to his batcave, dons his bat uniform, and speeds through the streets (while staying in the shadows). This young caped crusader is ready for a night of cleaning up Gotham City. He stares down evil, capturing as many as he can, dropping them behind bars for what should be a long haul. Then the night gets easier. Young batman avenges those done wrong by crime. He keeps a close watch over his partner (Robin) and their trusty canine. Finally, the city is quiet for one more night and the young Batman can close his eyes and rest.
Bedtime for Batman is a cute ode to the caped crusader and every little boy (or girl) who dreams of fighting the bad guy. The young hero looks out over Gotham City (represented by toy blocks). He then climbs the stairs to the batcave (his bedroom), puts on his Batman uniform (his pajamas and a blue blanket for a cape), and speeds through the night and battles evil (actually to his bathroom, where there is business to take care of—teeth, bath, and perhaps one last glass of water). Throughout the story, Batman’s duties and the young boy’s bedtime routine run parallel forming the nighttime adventure the young boy loves so much.
Anyone who likes Batman and Robin will love Bedtime for Batman. This makes the perfect bedtime story for those children who dream of being a hero, donning a cape, and opposing evil that lurks in the night. In the end, evil is thwarted and Batman and the young boy both are ready for sleep. The illustrations are adorable, and mirror the two images—boy and Batman—perfectly. The nighttime routine fits in magically with the nighttime routine of Batman and young children. Boys will love a story that puts them in the action, which is just what Bedtime for Batman does with its energetic text and images.

If you like the caped crusader (should I have capitalized that?), you’ll like Bedtime for Batman. I’m sure all of Gotham City’s nefarious criminals are thrilled when Batman goes to bed. 😆
