Six beret-wearing penguins (Tulip, Tiger Lily, Dandelion, Violet, Bluebell, and Broccoli) want to make a colorful picture for their mama, who loves colors as much as her adorable little penguins. Like most penguins, these six live in a mostly white world. Where will they paint a picture? Will it be on the white snow filling their world? And can you guess why the penguins are named as they are? When painting for mama, each penguin uses their favorite color. Can you figure out which color each penguin uses? How did you figure it out?
Penguins Love Colors brings children into the story by asking them questions, like those above, before revealing the answer. Young children will need to pay attention to answer the questions. Each penguin represents one of the colors; primary (red, blue, and yellow) or secondary (purple, orange, and green). HINT: check out their colorful berets.

The bright, bold colors, along with the cute penguins, make Penguins Love Colors an adorably accessible primer for young children. Aspinall’s picture book debut is perfect for any story time, but works best when followed by a creative activity using the six penguin-preferred colors.
