“There’s something foul in the fridge . . .

“Inspector Croissant begs Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast to help him find the source of a terrible odor. They search everywhere from Onion Ring Cave to Corn Chowder Lake, confident that the culprit is right under their noses. Can these sleuths crack the case before the investigation goes rotten?” [INSIDE JACKET]

Sh! Open your refrigerator door as wide as you can—forget parental warnings. I opened mine and found our favorite breakfast fare, Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast, lounging about on Marshmallow Coast. Then, crossing Taco Bridge, comes Inspector Croissant and he looks upset. “Uncle, he cries, “the fridge is in trouble!” There is a terrible, horrible, awful stench ruining whole shelves. Sir French Toast could smell the “nefarious odor.” He agrees to help his nephew find the culprit before the entire fridge becomes fodder for a hungry family.
From experience, Sir French Toast suspects Baron von Waffle and he knows just where “that devious square” will be. The trio—Lady Pancake joins forces—cross Salsa Ravine and wrap around Mount Everbean on their way to Onion Ring Cave, home of Baron von Square Waffle. But something is definitely wrong.

Branden Kearney’s pencil and digital illustrations are full of leafy details and clever characters to match Funk’s wonderful story. Taco bridges, salsa and applesauce rivers, and a live red herring will be just a few of the items kids will love. Gummy bears look out from the onion doors of Baron von Waffle’s cave in Kearney’s lively and captivating landscape, er shelves. The final spread runs vertically as the refrigerator door stands open for a lively concert with a famous spud. Don’t shut that door!
Josh Funk’s lively cast of foodie-toons arrives just in time for summer munching. Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast are no longer racing through refrigerators. This time around, the pair will need cooperation to solve this stinky case. Funk’s sesquipedalian vocabulary will please teachers and offers young children an opportunity to munch on words, increasing their vocabulary along the way. Parents will love the clever rhymes and perfect rhythm as they read, and reread, The Case of the Stinky Stench to their children. Whether read as a bedtime tale, a breakfast story, or an afternoon snack, The Case of the Stinky Stench will entertain children and adults.
