Inside Jacket: Sophie and Chloe are lucky that their Grandma Tillie knows how to be royally silly. To their delight, whenever Grandma Tillie babysits she seems to disappear, only to be replaced by a parade of lovable characters.
Grandma Tillie is an old-fashioned grandmother. She does not dress or act younger than her years, but rather likes to quietly sit and knit. While grandma knits, Sophie and Chloe go off to watch their favorite show. Then they have a simple dinner, a nice bubbly bath, and head off to bed. Grandma Tillie puts down her knitting long enough to read the girls a bedtime story. For all it has been a fun-filled, silly evening of grandchildren sitting.
Silly Frilly Grandma Tillie is a hilarious book for little girls and grandmothers of little girls. Grandma Tillie knows how to engage her two grandchildren. She uses laughter, silliness, a big bag of imagination, and a heart filled with love. Grandma Tillie, grandchildren sitter, entertains her young girls with silly-frilly joy and love—lots of love, and jokes.
“. . . if food comes from farms, who grows turkey sandwiches?” (answer at bottom)
The illustrations take advantage of the wonderful text while drawing out these characters in pencil. Ms Jewett expertly used her computer and the pencil drawings to simulate a traditional painting technique called gouache (using the colored pencils, salt, and a white pigment to lighten the tone, adding opacity and a matte finish). When Grandma Tillie is not around, and the girls watch The Tillie Vanilly Show, the star’s exuberance and pink hair flow endlessly. It is a shame Grandma Tillie would rather knit in a quiet room.
Girls will love Silly Frilly Grandma Tillie. The numerous opportunities to exaggerate the characters and touch the tickle-bone of those listening make this a great read aloud story. Silly Frilly Grandma Tillie is not one of those books only a grandmother could love. This is a book anyone reading it will love. I appreciated the tenderness written and drawn into the story. Silly Frilly Grandma Tillie will happily be read over and over, again and again!

Bette, I am speechless. This is fantastic. I never thought . . . really? Wow!
Wait, would I have to make a speech if Kid Lit Reviews actually won? Could a Guest Speaker do this?
Oh, my Bette. Humbly, I thank you. Wow . . . really?

I was lucky. For this book, I read a review Erik had done from the same publisher then checked them out. After contacting them they told me to choose some books Yes plural, more than one! I choose five never expecting to receive all five One, two maybe–they sent all five.
After the shock and my smile wore off reality set in. FIVE books to get reviewed all during the busy preholiday months. Ugh! I think you will you like all five. This is #2. That Cat Can’t Stay was the 1st, and the one Erik did a great job reviewing

Yeah! Good for you, Rhythm. Could you bark to Cupcake? The poor pooch doesn’t share your love of baths and bubbles.
I am so happy to see you. I’m around cats all day, if you catch my drift. Just one getting on my nerves right now. Are you interested in a play date? An extended play date. At your house? PLEASE? *help me*

Hahahahaha! I happen to like cats ok. I’d love a play date. But we have a queenly cat here who does not think that she should share her world with others. And she is quite elderly so for now we have to honor her wishes. I don’t think it’s fair, but I evidently have no say in the matter. As I said — she’s the queen, and I’m only a princess. Maybe I should come visit you!

Maybe we could have a “virtual” play date at my “virtual” home blog? Does that even make sense? This virtual world is a weird concept to me.

Aw, poor sweet Cupcake. Water won’t hurt you. Well, in most situations. As long as your Mom is with you you’ll be okay.
Good news is, the bath in this book is fictional. It cannot hurt you. Even the wonderful pictures are not real, only the imagination of the artist.
