Why I like this book:
~E. B. narrates the story! (E. B. is the . . . )
~We get to see the manufacturing facility where the Easter Bunny makes Easter eggs and candy. (And those marshmallow peeps!)
~The text rhymes and uses some wonderful new words young children can learn, like “supersonic, identity, lightning fast, brilliant, engineers, dodge, and crew.
~Mr. E. Bunny avoids all traps set for him, which become increasingly more complicated.
Love the red (cherry) candy fish shooting cannon. (Where can I get one?)
~Illustrations are bright, cheery, and full of delightful details.
~Easter Bunny is fluffy white, wears a purple-polka dot yellow tie, and carries treats in a backpack styled like a basket. (Must have a magical basket—it remains full despite Mr. B. leaving candy everywhere he went.)
~In 1682 the Easter Bunny looks smaller (makes sense since he’s younger) and wears the same tie. How do I know? It is large enough to look like an outfit on his smaller body.
~I love that the top egg in Mr. E. Bunny’s basket changes color with each spread – it shows doubters that Mr. B is leaving candy at each of his stops.
~The second to last spread has the Easter Bunny pointing at the reader and winking as he says “I’ve got one special stop to make to my FAVORITE kid of all!”
~How to Catch the Easter Bunny is a series of books. For St. Patrick’s Day you can learn How to Catch a Leprechaun and for Christmas, learn How to Catch an Elf, and especially for kids, How to Catch the Tooth Fairy. There are likely more to follow. (Catch a Diapered Baby for New Years Day, Cupid for Valentine’s Day, A Reindeer—with a red nose—for Christmas, and a Ghost, Goblin, or Goon for Halloween.)
Comments: Only one trap scene has Easter treats left by the Easter Bunny. Each scene should have at least a basket of goodies, if he leaves Easter candy at every stop he makes. One line of text seems odd: “If you have Easter spirit, then you just might see me roam!” (Roam means ramble or wander, not a purposeful trip. If Santa roamed, he would never make it to everyone on his “nice list.”) More importantly, as a segue to the bunny taking off on his Easter run, this last line does not work. It feels like a jolt going from this verse to the next.

400-500 eggs, real or plastic is a lot of eggs to hide. Did you keep a list of where you hid them? My mom had to keep a list. Dad ate what he found when he arrived home from third shift. We would hunt high and low for eggs that had already met their demise thanks to dad. I cannot fathom decorating and hiding 500 eggs. The kids in your neighborhood must have loved you for all the fun things you did.

What a contemporary find about the Easter Bunny. Sounds very humorous. I love the cover and illustrations! When my daughter was young, I always held the neighborhood Easter Egg hunt in our very large yard. We hid about 400 – 500 eggs. The kids loved it! So did the critters, if I hid plastic eggs too early.
